As IEA Affiliate Partner Agri-Tech East approaches its third anniversary, we hear from Managing Director Belinda Clarke how the organisation supports members in gaining benefit from environmental data and new technologies.
Belinda, can you give us an overview of Agri-Tech East?
Agri-Tech East is an independent, business-focussed cluster organisation, to improve the international competitiveness and sustainability of plant-based agriculture and horticulture. It is bringing together farmers and growers with scientists, technologists and entrepreneurs to create a global innovation hub in agri-tech.

The benefits of bringing together people from different disciplines never fails to inspire us and drive forward innovative ideas and solutions.
How relevant is environmental data analytics to your membership?
Many of our members are developing or using new technologies or practices to help reduce inputs in agriculture and horticulture and contribute to the so-called “sustainable intensification” agenda for the sector. Water and soils management are of particular interest to our industry.
What opportunities does being an affiliate member of the IEA Partnership bring to Agri-Tech East?
The insights and expertise within the IEA are very pertinent to our members who are keen to find ways of measuring and understanding environmental parameters.
What do you see as the biggest challenge on the horizon for Agri-Tech East?
Political uncertainty and economic volatility for farmers, and the need for agriculture to adapt to changing environmental conditions and adverse / extreme weather events.
